Heron Point golf course was born after a major renovation of what used to be known as the Sea Marsh Golf Course located at the Sea Pines Resort. Although the Sea Marsh golf course already had one remodeling effort the officials there decided to completely get rid of the Sea Marsh Course. Jack Dye, a famous golf course architect and also Jack Nicklaus, redesigned Heron Pointe Golf Course and it is now one of the most famous courses on Hilton Head Island. Heron Pointe has easily become a very distinctive course and is played on year round by many distinguished golfers. This popular golf course is a unique course that is located on a very flat island with lush greens throughout. Amazingly, after the renovation there are now hills and mounds where there only used to be flat land.
This newly renovated golf course now has fairways that are lined with trees as well as valleys and some bunkers that are extremely well hidden. To the golfers surprise there a few more hazards along the way that one may not expect. The water that has been added to the course also plays a big part of the trickery, which can make anyone’s golf game become a challenge. The Golf Course is filled with deceptions that will add to your golf strategy while playing on the course. Heron Pointe is a wonderful addition to the Sea Pines Resort where many people come not only to enjoy the scenery but a good golf game as well. If you like to having your short game challenged then you will no doubt love playing on this course. Most of the holes have water and trees with doglegs or bunkers. There are also a few more obstacles that you will have to contend with along the way. What may often look like a good shot can take a disappointing turn with mounds and knobs that can add a challenge to your game. Maneuvering the greens is not going to be that easy of a trick either even for the best golfer.
Although it took some time to convince the officials of Sea Pines Resort to let them cut down all the trees it was well worth it. The golf course is most definitely a fun and challenging course and has been referred to by many as just plain interesting. Although there were many trees that had to be cut down the course is still plenty wooded and there is enough sunlight getting through so that the grass will still be able to grow. Heron Pointe is a must for the golfer who likes to use some skill and strategy while playing a good round of golf.
